robertparker.com From a small parcel that touches Ruchottes-Chambertin and Mazis-Chambertin, and which is exposed quite differently from the rest of this premier cru, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny was vinified with 60% whole cluster and matured in one new 350-liter barrel. The wine offers up aromas of smoky berry fruit, dark chocolate, orange rind and spices, followed by a full-bodied, velvety palate with a broad, fleshy attack that segues into a beautifully tensile, mineral mid-palate and finish. It's one of the domaine's rarest bottlings, but it will be well worth seeking out.
